Instructions to Make Aloo Pyaz ki Sabzi
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
Peel and chop the onions and potatoes into small pieces. If using tomatoes, chop them as well. Keep the chopped ingredients aside. Time taken: 5 minutes
Step 2: Heat the Oil
In a kadhai or pan, heat oil over medium flame. Once hot, add cumin seeds and allow them to splutter. Time taken: 2 minutes
Step 3: Sauté Onions
Add the chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they turn golden brown. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. Time taken: 5-7 minutes
Step 4: Add Spices
Once the onions are golden, add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well to mix the spices with the onions. Time taken: 2 minutes
Step 5: Add Potatoes
Add the chopped potatoes to the pan and stir to coat them with the spices. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Time taken: 3 minutes
Step 6: Cook with Water
Add water to the pan, just enough to cover the potatoes. Cover and cook on low heat for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender. Stir occasionally. Time taken: 15-20 minutes
Step 7: Garnish and Serve
Once the potatoes are cooked through, remove the lid, and let the gravy thicken. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro and serve hot with roti or rice. Time taken: 5 minutes
